Domande Indirette
Ci addentriamo stavolta nelle Domande Indirette, un’altra struttura molto utile per padroneggiare bene la lingua inglese. Tuttavia ti suggeriamo di fare un piccolo ripasso sulle altre strutture base delle frasi inglese, così da capire meglio tutto quelle che spiegheremo di seguito:

Domande Indirette
Come le “subject questions” (le domande-soggetto), le strutture conosciute come “domande indirette” si appoggiano sulla struttura affermativa piuttosto che seguire la struttura interrogativa standard. Vediamo in che modo:
Supponiamo che vi troviate a Londra e dovete chiedere informazione a un passante. Certo, è possibile dire così:
“Excuse me, what time does the museum close?” Mi scusi, a che ora chiude il museo?
“Excuse me, where can I get a bus to Piccadilly Circus?” Mi scusi, dove posso prendere un autobus per Piccadilly Circus?
“Excuse me, is there a good hotel nearby?” Mi scusi, c’è un buon albergo da queste parti?
“Excuse me, how can I get to Buckingham Palace from here?” Mi scusi, come si arriva a Buckingham Palace da qui?
“Excuse me, does this shop sell city maps?” Mi scusi, vende mappe della città questo negozio?
Ma sarebbe ancora più educato fare queste domande cominciando con un “Opening phrase” (una frase d’apertura) come queste:
Excuse me, can you tell me…could you tell me…do you know…etc. (Può dirmi…potrebbe dirmi…Sa se…ecc.)
Alle volte le frasi di apertura non sono neanche vere domande, per esempio:
I don’t know…I wonder…I think… etc. (Non so…Mi domando…ecc.).
La formula
La formula per fare una domanda indiretta è la seguente:
Opening phrase + “Q” or if/whether + affirmative structure.
Ricordiamo che “Q” può indicare qualsiasi parola e/o espressione che pone una domanda: What / Who / When / Where / Why / Which / How / What time / How long / How often / How many / How much etc., incluse costruzioni ben più lunghe. (Che cosa / Chi / Quando / Dove / Perché / Quale / A che ora / Da quanto / Ogni quanto / Quanti / Quanto ecc.)
If & whether si traducono entrambi con “se”.
Ricordiamo brevemente che la struttura base per frasi affermative è come segue:
Sub + First Aux + (Other Aux) + Verb Form + the rest.
con l’eccezione di verbi nei tempi present & past simple, dove manca il verbo ausiliare, e che la struttura base per frasi interrogative standard è:
(Q) + First Aux + Sub + (Other Aux) + Verb Form + the rest?
Come costruire le domande dirette
Ora vediamo come possiamo trasformare le nostre domande di prima in domande indirette:

Ricorda che questa struttura è molto simile alla Struttura Interrogativa – “Domande-Soggetto”.
